Firstly, thank you for arranging two truly memorable safari experiences for our family. Both reserves offered exceptional elements, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to experience two very different interpretations of luxury safari hospitality.

Comparison of the two reserves:
Our stay at Ngala was distinguished by the warmth and sincerity of its hospitality. From the moment we arrived, the staff made a genuine effort to connect with us on a personal level, and this sense of heartfelt care remained consistent throughout the stay. Small but meaningful touches (e.g. refresher towels on arrival and after every game drive, bush breakfasts with thoughtful setups, staff singing at the boma, and consistently attentive service) created an atmosphere that felt welcoming and authentic.
Most notably, both the ranger and tracker at Ngala were outstanding. The ranger was exceptionally engaging with Noah, striking a rare balance between being informative, patient, and genuinely interested in including him in the safari experience. Although Ngala did not offer a formal children’s programme, the personalised attention from the guiding team and staff more than compensated. The food offering was also consistently strong for both adults and children, and thoughtful additions such as the children’s spa massage were appreciated.
In terms of safari sightings, Ngala delivered some very exciting moments including cheetah, lions, wild dogs, and honey badger. However, compared with our subsequent stay at Londolozi, the game viewing was naturally more limited by the terrain and reserve rules. The bush was extremely thick, vehicles were unable to go off-road to follow tracks, and sightings tended to involve individuals or smaller animal groups. We also noted that the much-publicised white lion appears no longer to be a realistic differentiator, and leopard sighting was also absent during our stay.
By contrast, Londolozi delivered what was unquestionably the superior pure safari experience. The game density, variety of sightings, and ability for guides to leave the road and actively track animals made for a far more dynamic and immersive wildlife experience. Sightings of leopard, large packs of wild dogs, multiple lions, elephant and giraffe herds, hyena den with pups, hippo groups, and prolific birdlife were exceptional.
However, where Londolozi fell short for us was in the human element of the experience. While efficient and polished, the hospitality often felt transactional and lacking in genuine warmth. With the exception of one assigned person who was wonderfully personable, many of the front-of-house interactions felt cosmetic, as though boxes were being ticked rather than sincere connections being formed. This was particularly noticeable when compared directly with the heartfelt service we had just experienced at Ngala.
This gap was even more evident in the family offering. Londolozi’s children’s welcome package was excellent on arrival, but the execution thereafter lacked consistency. Noah’s meals were repeatedly handled with far less care than the adults’, with incorrect orders and poorly prepared and burned food on more than one occasion. Similarly, the Cubs Den childcare felt more like a babysitting service than a premium children’s engagement experience. The childcarer was polite, but there was little evidence of genuine enthusiasm or effort to connect with Noah in a meaningful way.
In summary, the two lodges excelled in opposite ways:
Ngala offered the stronger hospitality experience: warm, sincere, family-focused, and highly personalised.
Londolozi offered the stronger technical safari experience: superior game viewing, more abundant wildlife, and more dramatic sightings.
In short: Ngala won the heart; Londolozi won the bush.
