The capital, Malé, is traditionally called the “King’s Island” and is host to the only International Airport in Maldives however there are many Maldivian domestic airlines which frequently fly to various islands.
Maldivian waters are the ideal location for snorkellers and beginner or advanced divers to explore the ocean depths, stunning coral reefs and abundant marine life. Home to several ecosystems and noted for their variety of colourful coral reefs, 1100 species of fish, 5 species of sea turtles, 21 species of whales and dolphins, 187 species of corals and much more.
These coral reefs play host to a variety of marine ecosystems that vary from planktonic organisms to whale sharks. Sponges have gained importance in recent years as a few species have displayed anti-tumor and anti-cancer properties.
